The word "casino" comes from the Italian for "gathering place" — and that is exactly what this building has been since five thousand guests arrived for opening night on July 31, 1937, when the Sterling Young Orchestra played and CBS Radio broadcast the celebration live across the nation. The venue books one event at a time, guaranteeing exclusive private access for every client.

### History

The Casino was built in the summer of 1937 by architect Charles A. Hunter and the Strang Brothers construction firm. Over one thousand workers built it in just six weeks, racing to complete the building before summer ended. Admission on opening night was forty cents. The Casino quickly became a destination for big bands and Hollywood celebrities — Judy Garland sang beneath the dome, Mickey Rooney took the stage, and Dorothy Lamour and Cesar Romero were spotted in the crowd. The big band era faded, and the Casino served various community purposes through the decades. In 2009, Linda Sadeghi acquired and restored the building with new electrical, plumbing, and climate control while preserving the original oak dance floor, dome, and 1937 fireplace. In 2020, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2026, the venue came under the stewardship of Jay's Hospitality Group, uniting two legacies of celebration.

Jay's Catering is the exclusive caterer at The Casino San Clemente. Founded in 1967, Jay's is a third-generation family-owned Orange County catering company. All food, beverage service (including alcohol), and bar service must go through Jay's Catering.
